About

Sompa Adhya-Taylor, LCSW

Hi there! My name is Sompa Adhya-Taylor and I’m here to help you on your path towards understanding how you got here, where you want to go and how to build your sense of self to get there.

When we look at the whole system of our lives, we realize that humans engage in certain patterns through social, interpersonal and family dynamics. Over time, we come to grow tired of those patterns and instead of changing our reactions, we tend to place blame on external factors and/or people. But we all know that it can be nearly impossible to control others and our environment. So instead, how can we look inwards and fix our situations? What can we do to change those troublesome patterns? Given those temporary feelings, how can we be less reactive and more responsive?

Through my practice, I will continuously challenge you to becurious  about what it means to be “yourself.”

Over my 21 years as a licensed clinical social worker, I have helped hundreds of people, in a broad range of demographics and backgrounds, to answer these questions for themselves. During my time at the University of Miami as an Associate Dean of Students and Case Manager and at Johnson & Wales University as the Director of Counseling Services,  along with my private practice, I've helped many adults learn about themselves and harness their strengths to become more solution-focused, especially during times when they feel out of control. I continually immerse myself in assisting clients to influence change within their own systems in both their personal and professional lives.

For me, something about laughing equates to a huge exhale after holding my breath, which is why I am a strong believer in sprinkling humor into even the hardest of situations. Therefore, I love to bring my humor, warmth, and empathy into my practice. Outside of The Curious Self, I can usually be found by the beach, in a boxing class, spending time with my children, in a bookstore, and continuously learning.
